Alright, just a quick post here. I know I said I'd be back in the new year but I just have to share something really quick with you guys while the kids are still sleeping.

I went to Target yesterday, (this is one of my most favorite beginnings to a post, haha) and they have some really AMAZING new stuff!

I didn't buy anything yet, because I got lots of great stuff for Christmas but since I finally received an iPhone from my wonderful husband. Yes, you heard right...finally! I'm so, so, so excited!

I took some iPhone pictures!

Favorite Pictures and Moments of 2012

I love to watch the shows on TV before New Years chronicling the previous year and I thought I'd do the same about mine too. This is especially nice for my family in Germany.

Warning, this post has nothing to do with DIY or design!

There were so many beautiful memories in 2012. We had a great year.
I hope all the pictures and two videos speak for themselves.

So this was our year and it was a very good one. We have so much to be thankful for.

After what happened last Friday at Sandy Hook,
I decided to spend the last couple of days/holidays of 2012 with my family
and make this my last post for 2012.

I wish you all

Enjoy the holidays and I'll talk to you all in 2013.

If you are following my facebook page, you saw the brass and glass shelf that I wanted to buy at the auction. Well, I bought it for $35. And if you would have told me a couple of years ago that I would be interested in buying a fugly brass shelf again one day, I would have told you that you are completely insane. Lots of would haves isn't it? Haha!

Well SOME brass has been growing on me again, as is quite evident.

I never got rid of my gold Christmas balls since I always loved to mix gold and silver and then last year the gold chevron lamp shades came into the house. I bought the $25 chrome and brass coffee table and I have been seriously obsessed with brass animals. And lets talk about the Target Nate Berkus gold decorations. I bought the gold sea urchin, the brass hammered bowl and I love the gold vases from his line too.

And I have to say that I'm smitten with this bathroom that I discovered on Pinterest.
I want to do something just like it in the worst way. It is perfection!

Isn't all the white and gold just delicious? Love it!

I want to replace the white Ikea shelf by the fireplace with this larger open brass shelf from the auction. I have been wanting to put an open shelf on that wall because we have a air vent on that wall that is kind of getting blocked by the current shelf.

I have been contemplating a couple of possibilities for this shelf.

• Should I dull the gold (I'm still not too thrilled about the shininess)? The Nate vases have the perfect shade of gold. That's how I'd like to have the shelf.
• A part of me still wants to strip the gold completely and reveal the silver metal underneath.
• Should I replace the glass shelving with white shelves?

I know that all of the above options would look good in our living room.
I'm leaning towards dulling the shine of the gold and making white shelves instead of the glass ones.
I'm hopefully going to start this small project during the Christmas break.
So what do you think? Fill me in!

Bombay Dog Table Makeover

I don't even know how to start this post after last Friday's tragedy. I'm so deeply saddened by this horrible massacre. How do I, as a parent, get over the fear of sending my child to school? There is a huge damper on my mood this holiday season. I have to keep it together because I don't want to show my children that I'm scared too. My son has already been asking me for a while to be home schooled and he asked me again this weekend. How do you ease your child's mind when you are scared yourself???
It feels ridiculous following my previous paragraph with a DIY project. But this is what I do to compose myself when I'm sad or anxious. I think about projects or design. Projects are therapeutic for me in a way because they help me focus on something else. At night when I can't sleep, instead of worrying about life, I try to think about what I could do around the house next. I sometimes think that if I wouldn't have this as an outlet, I would be depressed. Does this sound strange? I don't know, maybe you feel the same way!

So here is what I have been up to:
Years and years ago I was a huge fan of Bombay Company furniture. The days when they still had stores at the mall. God that seams like a lifetime ago... my taste has changed completely since then.

During that time I purchased this dog, I named him Hugo.

Poor little doggy was kind of beat up and I've been trying to sell him on craigslist, but nobody wanted him. Hmm, I wonder why, haha! Poor little fella.

I need some extra table space during the holidays for people to put their drinks down, so I thought why not give poor Hugo another chance and see if paint could help him out.

I cleaned Hugo and primed him with Kilz spray primer. Then I used some leftover paint to change him up a bit.

Hugo is looking good for the Holidays and he got a super spot for a beverage.

Look at my camera reflection. I'm such a dork!
My son calls him zombie dog because his eyes are white now.
I also thought about painting him yellow after the holidays and putting zombie dog in my son's room. Would be fun ;)

Well anyways, Hugo has a new purpose over the Holidays and I like him for now.

On Saturday I also made the silhouettes for Andrea from Oak Ridge Revival who was the winner of my giveaway. You can still get one for yourself as a last minute gift in my Etsy shop.

Yesterday, I was out with the stomach bug and I'm still not back to normal this morning.

What have you been up to over the weekend? How do you deal with this tragedy in your home? Did you talk to your children? If so what did you say?

Talk to you on Wednesday.
