First off, let me tell you that this is NOT a sponsored post, but if any of those companies are listening…it really should be. I have spent way too much money on their products already. Why did I spend too much money on their products? Because they work better than anything else and I was desperate! I have tried the homemade Pinterest remedies and sorry people but there’s just no comparison.
I wanted to write this post to talk about the not so clean reality of dealing with pets (and yes, children too). Especially towards the end of our dear Harry’s life (click HERE if you want to read about him) things got really ugly and I had to clean a lot. It was a huge part of my life that I kept hidden.
I’ve become a pet cleaning specialist along the way and tried out lots of things. This post is to share my experiences on how to deal best with poop, pee and vomit (there is just no nicer way to put it y’all). And face it toddlers and kids do that on our floors and rugs too at least it happened in my house. AND I PROMISE I’LL GO BACK TO DIY PROJECTS NEXT WEEK.
Having four cats created several issues. Especially when we introduced a male to our three ladies. Sh*t or pee literally hit the fan. Things went smoothly before he arrived and not even Feliway could help get things back on track. He was a territorial male and my oldest lady wasn’t having it so both had marking issues. But I wasn’t going to give any of them up so I tried to come up with a plan. These two following books helped me so much and I was able to change small things around the house to make everyone happy and the litter box issues stopped (at least until sickness arrived).
If you are asking me what I changed then I have to tell you that it is different for every cat. Hey, they have different personalities just like us and there is no quick fix. A lot of time and effort was necessary to get to a point of content. But litter box placement and hierarchy play a huge roll.
Now, lets get to the cleaning part shall we? And yes it can get nasty and ugly but I take it seriously when it comes to stains and odors. I always ask family members and friends if it smells in our house and I get assured that it doesn’t. Believe me my family would tell me, especially my mom. And I have been to several homes where it smells like a cat urinal. I have developed a good nose for it and my kids have too.
I want to share with you the products that I use and that have worked best for me and I have used so many especially since we are always on a budget.
This is what has worked best for me and I still think this should be a sponsored post or, yeah, I’d take coupons too if you’ll send them my way. Are you listing my favorite companies?
I have tried non-clumping (which is the WORST) and store brands and they are not doing their job especially smell wise and my hubby agrees. I clean all my 5 boxes (one box for every cat and then an extra one (but now that Harry died I can eliminate one) every day at least once if not twice. The litter gets scooped into cheap zip-lock bags and when they are full I throw them out. Works like a charm.
It is without a doubt the best. You need to soak the area completely and then let it air dry. The stench will smell worse before disappearing because it is breaking down the urine enzymes. If the smell isn’t gone all the way the first time then I did it again but in every case it disappeared.
I was mostly lucky that Harry had accidents in our basement where we have a hard surface floor and leather couch. Everything was covered in plastic and clean up was easy.
Now here’s the thing, I have used Nature’s Miracle for my kids accidents as well. The one year we all had the stomach bug and they threw up everywhere. And to top things off our washing machine broke, it was a nightmare. There is nothing worse then human vomit smell at least for me. Yuck, but this stuff has helped so much. And on top of it, it removes stains. The best is the original stuff shown on the above photo.
Lets move on to the carpet vomit stains and other dark stains, should we? (aren’t you loving this post…NOT…but it’s reality for a lot of people)
And this only works for white or cream carpets, I think. I mean you can try it on your colored carpets but please only in a hidden area.
