FRIDAY and Christmas is only a couple of days away. I’m pretty much over seeing Christmas craft ideas everywhere, aren’t you? I think everyone is done decorating by no, right? Or not?
For today, I thought I’d show you how I achieved a different look in our living room by only changing out a few little things here and there throughout the year.
Ready?
This photo here is of our living room Christmas 2012 (click HERE to see the full tour, which makes me sad because Harry is lying under the tree and I miss him so much).
And this is almost the same view for this year’s Christmas living room (click HERE for full tour):
Last year was all about gray and white. This year I have more colors and added some black to the mix.
I thought I’d also show you the evolution of how this came together throughout the year.
It started with little tiny spots of colors here and there. You can barely see them:
Hey and for Halloween the black made an appearance with my thrifted black and gold lamp, the crow pillow, the grumpy cat pillow and some black and white accents. I also added the auction starburst over the mirror.
A lot more going on, right?
Well and this is how I ended up with our Christmas decor for this year. Still the same room and Christmas decor as last year but some small changes that I think give a big impact.
Love the sparkly new H&M pillows on the sofa by the way!
The chevron lamp shades are living in the man cave right now and I added some
black lampshades with gold lining from Target. I really love them!
I really like seeing how this room has changed in one year and I could probably do a post like this about every room because color has made it’s way more and more into our home this year.
I have also gotten a lot braver and just go with what I like without worrying about what other people like. I look at the beginning of 2012 of our living room now and think pretty but kind of boring. I really am glad I changed it up a bit.Â
This post also proves that you don’t need to buy a ton of new furniture to get a different look. The sofa, rug, end tables and coffee table are still the same, just the small items have changed, which barely cost a thing 😉
I’m thinking of coming up with a similar post about the rest of our house for Monday. Should I?
Have a great weekend. I will try to enjoy our Christmas home before it will all be over already next week. I hate cleaning up Christmas decor. It actually depresses me because another year has come to it’s end.
Tschüß and see you on Monday.

Oh my goodness I don’t think I have seen your living room before. It is GORGEOUS!! Which sofas are those? I love them! Love the Strandmon there too 🙂 You pink accents are awesome and I love the animal pillows.
I sill love those animal pillows. And hooray for gold and silver all mixed together!! I feel the same way about taking down the Christmas decor. I admit I leave it up longer than most people – I enjoy it much more after the holiday madness is over.
Love the fun colors and that zebra pillow and the starburst layered over the mirror! I hate un-decorating after Christmas too – maybe doing it with a big glass of wine will help!! Kelly
Everything about your house is so gorgeous. I am not really into even trying to decorate this year. I lost my darling “Sir Galahad The Shih Tzu” and my darling FIRST kitty kat EVER, “Sugar The Maine Coon” , most perfect baby boy EVER!
I love your house! It is so very elegant and feminine but not overly girly. I like this post because it let´s me imagine how you make design decisions, something I´m always very afraid of, partly for those “other” comments. Merry Christmas! -I´m sorry about your cat- Q.Beta
It’s so fun to see the color you’ve added! This is the perfect example of having a neutral base and changing it up with different colors & accessories!
Why “yes”, please do another room evolution post. It’s fun. Plus, next month I am going to finally paint my cuckoo clock thanks to you! Leaning towards all white,,,but I waffle :-). Merry Christmas!
Yes, Christmas is really around the corner! We’ve just had set up our Christmas tree in the living room last week. I like the new look of your living room better. I think the warm colors and the candles are a nice touch. I really love the idea of a warm and cozy Christmas. Happy holidays, by the way!

Amazing! The changes are fantastic. A little color goes a long way!
The sunburst over the mirror is my favorite!
Merry Christmas!

Thanks so much! My husband doesn’t think it’s too girly either 😉
And thanks for the kind words about my kitty.
Still my favorite room in blogland.

I love seeing how your living room has transformed. I really like all the color!
Love the changes (I’m kind of a fan of color ;))….it was pretty before, but so much more personality now!
Your home is always so inviting and soothing…just so lovely.
Thank you so much Karen
Love the changes you’ve made over the last year! Can’t wait to see what 2014 brings for you!
I love it. Our home has kind of evolved the same way- a ton of color these days. It just makes it so much better 🙂
