Old BEFORE Garden photos
Hey friends, I’m back! How was your 4th of July weekend? I had a very needed and awesome time at the beach. And I am now getting ready to head to Haven. I’m a first-time Haven attendee and can’t wait to meet some of my online friends that I haven’t met in person yet. Atlanta here I come!
Since my projects have been a little sparse because of our vacation, I had the idea to post some old photos. Well, I actually had the idea after I received some questions about our garden. Do you remember my recent post about our “woodsy patio hangout“? (HERE if you missed it and to see a lot more photos}
Now may I please point out to you that these upcoming photos are about 14 years old and we did NOT have a digital camera at that time? Gosh, I feel so stinking old.
Let’s start with the front.
Ok, I’m not that old, I just used to like taking black and white photographs which make me look like a dinosaur now. But it shows you that we started with a dirt patch. Nada in the landscaping department.
Then we planted grass and a tree and apparently, the hubby liked photographing me while I weed whacked.
This is the front yard now:
Same tree, can you believe it? It even holds a swing now. And I built the trellis fence that is barely visible in the background.
And we planted another tree. I told you a long time ago how obsessed I am with trees and how I think they make a neighborhood so much prettier. (HERE)
Now returning to the backyard:
I’ve always loved wearing overalls and the hammock was pretty much hanging in the dirt.
Here under the hammock is where I added a flagstone patio (same spot as the above photo). My hubby fought me on that one and told me that we didn’t need it. Now it’s his favorite place to sit at night and he hates when I mention it because he hates when I am right.
Doesn’t even look like the same place, does it? My favorite plants to add are hostas and ferns. And I’m also a huge fan of the Irish moss between the flagstones.
Here is another shot of the steps we added leading up to the flagstone patio.
And I have quite the baby face.
I’m sitting right where under where that large hosta is now. And you can barely see the little tock wall. But of course I have a wine glass next to me. Happy hour after a day of hard yard work. My favorite 😉

I probably enjoy going down memory lane more than anyone else but I just thought I’d share.

you are so gorgeous i can see why your husband liked to photograph you weed whacking. gurl, you make those tools and overalls look fiiiiine. 😉 your yard has come a long way baby!
btw sarah and i had a conversation wondering how many stylish bloggers at haven would be wearing the newer trendy overalls in an ironic fashion. 😉
That is a lot of weed wacking! Seriously though the yard has gone through an amazing transformation. It’s so lush and green now.
Baby face is right! Love seeing the transformation. I bet putting in those steps were a huge pain, but they look amazing!

Oh my gosh I am such a big fan of memory lane. And memory lane JULIA 🙂 This was so great. I love seeing how small that tree was and then now… holding that hammock. Don’t they say that the best tree is the tree you plant today? Or something 🙂 Love it!
Dang, girl, you definitely have a green thumb! It’s beautiful. Need to see if I can get irish moss to grow in our zone, it’s totally what I need for our steps. Enjoy Haven!
Wow! You’ve really made the place SO homey! And I love seeing old pics of you and your kitties;) Love the overalls by the way:):) The hubby and I are considering buying a new(ish) home in a few months, so this helps show me that you really can make a newer space feel homey and “lived in”. Pinning!
The outside looks amazing!! I can only hope that in 14 years mind looks decent!! I’m not a fan of yard work, but I do love outdoor spaces. Yours is seriously incredible. I could swing in that hammock drinking wine and munching on cheese all day every day!

This post cracked me up! You are hilarious. Honestly, what a transformation. It makes me want to lounge and stay a while. Have so much fun at Haven. I wanted to go so bad this year, but it wasn’t in the cards. Maybe next year!

Love seeing what you started with. It gives me hope that I’ll have mature, pretty plants. Even if it takes 14 years to get there. Want to come help me landscape? I love your mix of plants!

Before and afters are the best!! Sometimes I pull them out to remind myself of how much progress I’ve really made. Wish, wish, wishing I was meeting you at Haven this year. Sigh. Maybe 2015!
