I gave teasers on Instagram already and if anyone guessed I painted one of our bathrooms black, then you guessed right. My daughter has been begging me to paint her bedroom black but since I pretty much just got done with her room, I wasn’t going to paint it again, because for now it is pretty as is. And I have been talking about the bathroom dilemmas in our home and what I wanted to do. My plans were ambitious but after paying for our flights to Germany rapidly dwarfed into a budget overhaul.
And over the weekend I came up with this DIY hand towel ring that I love. My son and daughter share this bathroom and it now has the perfect mix of boy and girl.
I started with this cheap wooden towel ring from Lowes which is only $6.98. Yup can’t beat that.
And here is a list of what else I used:
• Rub ‘n Buff® in antique gold
• clear sealer spray
• old belt (check a local thrift store
• brass screw and anchor (THIS anchor is my favorite to use)
• Gorilla Glue
I started by taking the mounting part of the wooden towel holder off with the saw. Easy and fast!
That left me with a wooden ring that was open on one side.
I then sanded it lightly, applied the Rub ‘n Buff® with my fingers, let it dry, buffed it and then sprayed it with the clear sealer to make sure my towels stayed clean.
I then cut off a part of an old belt, wrapped it around the open part of the wooden ring, applied glue and clamped it.
The next day when it was dry, I hung it on the wall with the brass screw and anchor. That’s it. So easy and fast and it looks great I think.
I also came up with a black version of the Ikea toilet paper holder that I talked about HERE. It’s perfect!
That’s it for today. My dad is in town and I’m not sure how much and how often I will blog. He hasn’t been here in 3 years and I want to enjoy my time with him. But on Wednesday I’m sharing some more bathroom photos (update: click HERE to see more and read about paint colors).
