50 questions and some cat updates

Today I'm answering 50 questions because my friend Anna from Directions Not Included tagged me in her post (click HERE). Do you remember Anna from my pet series post a couple of weeks ago?
And a post without photos would be so boring. So for photos, I decided to add some cat updates for those of you who care. I know I haven't posted about them in a long time.

Our 19 year old Heidi is doing wonderful.

1. What are you wearing?
I wore tight jeans and boots all day today but as usually the minute I come home I run upstairs and put on my sweatpants! So that’s what I’m wearing now.

2. Ever been in love?
Oh well yes I have, but nothing compares to the love I feel for my children. No matter what they will do in life, I will always love them and never fall out of love with them. It’s the deepest love I have ever felt.

3. Ever have a terrible break-up?
Oh gosh yes I have and I hope my kids won’t have to go through the same. I suffered terribly for years.

4. How tall are you?
Or should I say "how small are you"? Well I'm 5’3".

She doesn't love hugs as much as I would like her to ;) and yes I'm wearing makeup again!

5. How much do you weigh?
It changes all the time and I hate to weigh myself and never do at home but when I go to the doctor’s office it’s anywhere between 115-120lbs.

6. Any tattoos?
Yup, I got a tramp stamp on my rear but it was so cool when I was 21 and nobody had one. Thankfully it’s not visible to most people.

7. Any piercings?
My ears but that's it.

8. OTP (One true pair, favorite fictional couple?)
I'm so disgusted with myself that I'm publicly admitting to being a Twillight Freak ;) Please don't leave me after I admitted this now.

9. Favorite Show?
Oh I have so so many: Walking Dead, Sons of Anarchy, Vikings, Game of Thrones… and so many more

This 6lb beauty is still totally the boss of the house. Don't mess with her!

10. Favorite Bands?
I don’t really have any favorites, again it depends on how I feel but I totally have a thing for hip hop and rap. If I’d have to name a band it might be Coldplay or Kings Of Leon but there are so many more.

11. Something you miss?
My family in Germany. I miss them every day!

12. Favorite Song?
Totally depends on my mood and how I’m feeling but one of my all time favorites is a-ha - Take On Me and DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince - Summertime

13. How old are you?
39 (sigh) and that explains why I like the songs in the previous question ;)

14. Zodiac sign?
Aquarius!

And Monkey (aka half-blond porch cat) has finally after almost 5 years convinced my husband
to be her friend while we were in Germany.  He took all of these photos of her while they were hanging out in the garden together. We are all so glad about that change.

And she hasn't been a porch cat for a while now.
She uses her custom cat door nonstop and comes and goes as she pleases.
And she brings me dead presents (aka Vole Sushi) all the time which don't make me all that happy.

15. Favorite Quality in a Partner?
Being a great father

16. Favorite Quote?
I don’t really have one, I don't think. I wish I could sound all deep, educated and meaningful right now, but I'm drawing a blank here.

17. Favorite Actor?
Way too many to count but I have always had a huge thing for Brad Pitt ;)

18. Favorite Color?
Don’t have one either, I like them all

19. Loud music or soft?
When I’m in the car alone I blast music at home it’s soft. I'm the weirdo at the stop light where the entire car is shaking but you see a mom singing and driving, not pretty.

20. Where do you go when you are sad?
I snuggle with my kids and cats in bed or on the sofa.

21.  How long does it take you to shower?
Maybe 10 minutes?

22.  How long does it take you to get ready in the morning?
I’d have to say maybe 15 minutes, I got my routine down.

23. Ever been in a physical fight?
Haha aaaaahm with my brother as kids.

24. Turn on?
A go-getter!

25. Turn-off?
A narcissist!

26. The reason I started blogging?
As a hobby and to show my family in Germany what I have been up to lately.

27. Fears?
That something could happen to my children is my worst fear but I have many more that keep me up at night.

28. Last thing that made you cry?
My daughter

29. Last time you said you loved someone?
My kiddos and hubby this morning when they got up.

30. Meaning behind the name of your blog
Well I’m German, I always have a love-hate relationship with cuckoo clocks so it came naturally to name my blog Cuckoo4Design.

31. Last book you read?
A German thriller

32. Book you are currently reading?
I’m not reading anything right now, if I have time to read I pick up my flash cards for the American citizenship test. Which doesn't take long to put me to sleep.

33. Last show you watched?
Walking Dead

34. Last person you talked to?
My hubby

35. The relationship between you and the person you just texted?
My neighbor

36. Favorite food?
Cheese (and of course wine, they go hand in hand)

37. Place you want to visit?
Costa Rica

39. Do you have a crush?
I crush on something or someone all the time, changes like my underwear and how I feel ;)

40. Last time you kissed someone?
My kiddos when they got up this morning

41. Last time you were insulted?
I feel like you get insulated as a blogger very often. People just say the meanest things when hiding behind a computer

42. Favorite flavor of sweet?
Nugat

43. What instruments do you play?
Oh no, why do you have to ask that question? My parents forced my to play different flutes. I hated every minute of it.

44. Favorite piece of jewelry?
Several pieces from my grandmother.

45. Last sport you played?
I ski every winter

46. Last song you sang?
Clean Bandit - Rather Be (love that song right now, click HERE to see video and listen to it)

47. Favorite chat up line?
When the strange guy at the triftstore called me baby girl. Oiy that's not even a line is it? I've become too easy but hey at my age that totally makes me happy.

48. Have you ever used it?
I don’t think that would work on anyone else but me.

49.  Last time you hung out with anyone?
On Friday with my neighbors and with the soccer parents of my kiddos' teams all weekend.

And I thought long and hard about who I should tag next. And I hope she isn't mad that I'm tagging her but I'd love to have Gretchen from Boxy Colonial answer these questions because she makes me laugh.

Living Pretty With Your Pets: DIY Show Off

Today I have someone to share with you who was my first influence when I started blogging. I'm pretty sure you guys know her already if you've been around the blogosphere for a while.
Roeshel from DIY Show Off was the first one to ever feature one of my projects and I was so super nervous to approach her because I thought anybody would write me off as a completely insane "crazy cat lady".

So, I have to tell you guys that I adore her and her two furry kiddos.

Hi Cuckoo4Design friends! I'm so super excited that Julia has invited me to participate in her Living Pretty with Pets series! I've enjoyed reading the loving stories, meeting the sweetest bloggers and their cute furry family members. I've "met" Julia through blogging but it was her love of animals and pet DIY that brought us together over her AH-mazing outdoor cat enclosure which I had the pleasure of featuring. Isn't it one of the most creative pet DIY projects ever?! Don't show your cat. #envy Oh! I'm Roeshel. It's nice to 'e-meet' you! Our pets are a big part of our lives at DIY Show Off too and they'd love to make your acquaintance.

Meet Lalka: (her name means 'doll' in Polish). She's our beautiful rag doll cat. Favorite past times include dog bullying, bug chasing, mouse catching and cat-napping.  When I'm working on a DIY project, Lalka likes to contribute plenty of cat fur and supervision...just to make sure I'm doing things right. She's pretty verbal with her own opinions on how I should be doing things.

She has the most beautiful blue eyes...

 and a diva personality...

She's daddy's little girl and super spoiled!

Meet: Coco-Rosie. It took me a while to warm up to opening our home to another dog as just thinking about the loss of our sweet doxie, Niski, still brings tears to my eyes. But a little over a year ago I decided that my empty nest was just too quiet, especially since I work from home. I happened upon a classified ad for an Italian greyhound. He was no longer available but oh my gosh...so cute. That made me look at the Italian greyhound breed. Traits included small in size, short fur with little shedding, imaginative, funny, snuggly and affectionate and gentle. All qualities that appealed to me.  I submitted an application to our tri-state Italian greyhound rescue looking for an adult female. It took a few months to find a match but when I met Rosie at her foster home, it was love at first sight. 8 years young and 10 pounds of cuteness! Those eyes...

She's super sweet, always (and I mean ALWAYS) by my side, so loving, so obedient, well behaved and well-trained. She was obviously loved. It breaks my heart that someone had to give her up for some unknown reason but I sure am thankful to have her in my life too.

Because she's my velcro-dog, she often photobombs my project images. Her favorites are those created in her likeness.

As a DIY blogger, I've had fun showering these two with some fun pet DIY projects...

Lalka, Rosie and I invite you to stop by our online home. It's been lovely to meet you! Thanks for having us, Julia!

I'm sure you guys have all been following her already, haven't you? But for the slightest chance that you haven't, then I have to make sure that you head on over for a visit by clicking HERE.
Anybody who adopts an 8 year old pet is an angel in my book. So love it! And those older animals deserve to have a second chance and be loved.

Have a great weekend my friends.

Living Pretty With Your Pets: Kristen F. Davis Designs

I'm so stoked to have another adorable scruffy mutt, cute cat and their über talented blogger mommy as a guest today. I can't even remember when I found Kristen's blog Kristen F. Davis Designs but it's been a long time ago. I just love her style and following her on Instagram. Lots of cute animal photos are always a plus of course.
She is also a very gifted painter. Furniture, canvas or walls! You name it, she does it! (Just check out the tabs at the top of her blog for examples)

Julia asked me to write a post for her "Living Pretty With Your Pets" posting series. I love my pets and I love Julia's blog, so it was a no brainer. If you follow my Instagram account (@kristenfdavisdesigns), you might have had your fill of photos of my cat and dog, but just incase you don't and haven't, here we go... :)

I'll first start with Mika, our cat. He's a long haired Manx cat that we took in when Jordan's sister needed to get him out of her house (she was worried about the toxins from cat litter affecting her pregnancy. I don't think this is something people worry about anymore, but at the time it was a concern. Now they have safe cat litter! I'm glad we got him, nonetheless :))

Manx cats are born without tails and are, by nature, smaller than the average cat. I love Mika so much! We got him in 2009, so he's lived with us for 5 years, and he's about 6 years old. He's always been pretty spunky. From climbing on top of the top kitchen cabinets and running laps, to running up and down our stairs at the condo, to trying to eat my hair, and chasing the laser light toy, he's pretty active. It's funny - sometimes we'll be downstairs, and just hear crazy noises upstairs... it's Mika, just running from the master bedroom to the guest bedroom... back and forth, back and forth. Getting his exercise.

He's always in the mix, ready to see what we're up to.

He's always been my trusty assistant with all my design projects, too. No matter what the project is, he sits down on top of it to check it out and give it the sniff (and sometimes lick) test.

Also, always great at posing for the camera.

His favorite things are leafy green salads, licking Jordan's leftover yogurt cups, and helping me prepare flower arrangements (taking the leaves in his mouth and displaying them throughout the house. Really nice.)

He even made it into the magazine when Jezebel magazine did a feature on our old condo!

A lot of my blog readers give me a hard time about posting less pictures of Mika these days, now that we have a dog, too, but Mika is still my first son! I do love that little cat.

We got Max, our terrier mutt from the Atlanta Humane Society back in December of 2013. They told us he was about a year old, and the veterinarian confirmed that when we took him in. He is full of spunk, personality, and sweetness. He's a little freak, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

From the very first car ride, he has been full of love and energy.

This is probably the first photo I took of him (first of probably 1000 so far). Doesn't it look like he's smiling? This is on the way home from the Humane Society. Jordan and I were immediately in love with him. Jordan had found him on the Humane Society's website (his name on there was "Woolworth". Makes sense since he's such a scraggly, wooly guy), and we both thought he was going to be a lot bigger, from the pictures. I thought he'd be a medium sized dog, but literally as soon as we walked into the HUGE building, they were taking some dogs for "walks" around the building, and he was the first dog we saw. We both said "oh my gosh , I think that's Woolworth!" and asked the lady walking him. She said yes, and we asked if we could visit him. They put us in a glass room with just us and him, to give us some alone time, and he was jumping on us, licking our faces and sitting in our laps from the beginning. Jordan kept asking "Do you think we should? Is he the right dog? Should we meet some others?" and I just kept saying "let's adopt him!". We are both so happy that we adopted him - we laugh at him about 50 times a day, and both enjoy his company in our life. He's really wild a lot of the time, and maybe not the best behaved dog, but I love his little personality.

Speaking of not well behaved, this is him on the table the other day (we got him a fresh haircut for the summer). Inappropriate (yet cute):

He even helps me work.

So nice of him to model for my blog pictures.

And sometimes, he doesn't even have to model. He just woke up like this:

;) Max-sleeping-pictures are some of my favorites. Why are they always so cute?

Some of my favorite times with him were right after we got him - it snowed. He loved it! Couldn't get enough, and also was eating it. Blobs of snow stuck to his little beard. Haha.

He's a real cutie.

An adjustment that we had to make is having both Max and Mika in the house. A "mature" cat and somewhat of still a puppy-dog make for an interesting mix. Mika is not interested in Max's shenanigans, and they have really yet to become real friends. They do play sometimes, but Mika mainly enjoys to be Max-free ;)

A gamechanger was buying a baby gate. My friend had suggested it, and it was a perfect solution. I put the baby gate at the bottom of our stairs, and Mika is able to have the upstairs domain, and Max has the downstairs. It has worked wonders, and Mika is back to running laps in the house. I don't always leave it up, but we do a lot of the time, and I like that it gives Mika some freedom from the wildness that is Max. At night, we all 4 hang out in the bedroom, and that makes me happy. Every now and then, this happens:

Harmony!

I hope you've enjoyed my pets post. Thanks, Julia, for having me!

I totally do think that Max is smiling on the way home from the Humane Society, don't you think so? He is so stink in adorable, misbehaved and all. I do love a little dog with personality, too funny.

I'm also glad that Mika found a home with Kristen and her husband. We have a manx (who I love dearly and who is 19 years old now) too but ours can't jump up anywhere and never had a lot of energy.

Now pay Kristen a visit by clicking HERE because like I said, she is amazingly talented. Check out the amazing bench she built from Target side tables. I love it so so much:

DIY leather bench made from Target side tables

So good, right? Looks so high end.

And she sells some amazing paintings in her Etsy store as well (click HERE).

This one is not for sale :( but I love it!

Hey and if you have some adorable pets living pretty with you at home then why don't you hashtag them for all to see?

#livingprettywithyourpets

Have a great weekend my friends.

Tschüss,
