What’s next?
If you follow me on Instagram then you might have already read that one of the major reasons I haven’t DIYed anything bigger is the fact that my husband was working nightshift. I didn’t want to mention it anywhere before because I didn’t want to broadcast the fact that he was gone at night.
It’s a tough one to have him home sleeping all day too when you are used to being able to do whatever you wanted to at home. I couldn’t make any noise or use any types of smelly paints and stains. This is also why I haven’t tackled finishing the stairs yet although now I need to wait until I can keep the windows open again for that one.
Now my world is back to normal again, well almost back to normal, I had my skin cancer removed today and hope I won’t find anything else any time soon. I’m paranoid now. It also needs to heal before I get into finishing a massive project.
At least I’m getting ready for a project and gathering all the inspiration and items for that project.
What will it be? Well I want to redo our powder room! It’s been on my list for a while and on Friday I shared some Etsy wallpapers (click HERE) that I was considering for that space.
I’m not going to restrict the wallpaper search to Etsy. I’m looking all over the place.
You guys remember the powder room as this:
And with the newer faucet:
The above photos were taken about two years ago, right after DIY Magazine was at my house. You can see the original posts with my budget DIYs by clicking HERE and HERE.
The reality of the powder room doesn’t look like that anymore. It looks like the photos below which clearly show that it’s time for a refresh. And they are quite embarrassing.
That is not a shadow above but a black stain from the candle. Ugh! And I had handpainted the stripes on the wall with a waterbased gold sharpie, which means I can’t just wipe the walls because the sharpie comes off. It’s showing how it smudges in the photo below.
The walls are all banged up and dirty and not to mention how disgusting that old sink is.
As far as my plans go, I know that I will have to keep the vanity cabinet because the builder had put the laminate around the cabinet and not under. If you ever build a home make sure the flooring is under your cabinets in case you ever want to change those out. It’s so frustrating.
I do know that I want to switch out the cabinet door thought because I have disliked that builder standard door design for a long time and it’s also banged up on the top.
You know what I did yesterday? I purchased a new door on Amazon! Yup! It’s plain MDF and I will paint it. I might actually consider painting the cabinet a darker color but I’m not sure yet.
It’s a plain shaker style door which you can find HERE. So far the company has been really helpful.
I was really surprised to find all these sizing options on Amazon. There are so many door styles, materials and sizes to chose from.
I’m also lucky that I have a nice vessel sink faucet left yet that I want to use here so the faucet from this bathroom can get moved into my kids bathroom because the one they have is disgusting too.
I’ve had this one for 1.5 years in the basement. I guess it’s time to finally use it, right?
I’m trying to narrow down countertops now. I love black marble or white marble with a white vessel bowl but I don’t want to go too dark in the powder room which is why I probably have to go with a white countertop again, especially if I end up painting the cabinet a color.
And the bowls
Square, oval or round is the question!?!?!

Of course the size matters too!
And I’m in love with THIS mirror which happens to be the perfect size too:
And I have also been browsing lighting options. But I will share all of those with you on Friday because there are so many I like mainly on Etsy again. So much to consider.
That’s the fun part to me and I can do all of the mood boards and inspiration while my “boob” is healing from cutting the skin cancer out. Hopefully it won’t take all that long.
And look at my little Heidi in her diapers above. I mentioned on Instagram that she’s wearing diapers now. She ended up going everywhere in the house and since she doesn’t have a tail it’s actually pretty easy this way and she lets me put them on too.
I did have to move the BeniO in our living room for now because (like I said) I caught her peeing on it once. It’s rolled up. She sometimes still loses her diapers and I just don’t want to risk it with that expensive carpet.

My other baby is doing well so far though and she isn’t the youngest anymore either at almost 19.
That’s it for today.
Tschüß.
aaaw, poor heidi! and i can’t wait to see the bathroom refresh- love the ideas you have for it!!!
Ugh she hasn’t gone number 2 in about a week which is stressing me out severely 🙁
Goodness, you have had your hands full lately! I want a beautiful rug in my living room, but because I foster for a rescue, it’s not going to happen. Hope you heal up quickly!
Bless you for fostering. That is such a wonderful thing
Love your ideas for the bathroom. Wishing Heidi well. Love how your care so much for your cats. You have a beautiful soul.
Thanks Pam, I feel so bad for her.
You’re such a good cat-momma. They are lucky to have you loving on them!! Can’t wait to see what you do with your bathroom. That’s the first big project of the year for me too and I’m off to the hardware store today to get the party started. Is it sad that the thing I am most excited about is getting a new toilet in there? HAAA don’t answer that. 🙂
A new toilet is a wonderful thing! I would be too 😉
Those changes are going to be amazing! and, I totally want to use that mirror somewhere in my house too!
It’s a tad bit more than I wanted to spend but I really really want it 🙁
So glad your skin cancer was removed and I’m sure you found that the MOHS procedure is wonderful! It will be 4 weeks tomorrow since I had mine removed from my face and I can barely see a scar. I lost your email after you commented on my first comment or I would have sent you pictures.
Oh that’s awesome that you can barely see anything. Gives me hope. Right now mine is pretty big and red
Your fur children are lucky to have you as a Mom 🙂 I can’t wait to see the new reveal.
This will be a slow makeover process for sure
yay–so glad things are getting back to normal for you and your family! And I’m excited to see what you do in your bathroom 🙂
Aww bless Heidi, the little sweetie. You are such a wonderful kitty mama, they are lucky to have you. Nice to hear your family life is getting back to normal and that things are going well with your recovery. Can’t wait to see what you decide for the bathoom! xx
Thanks my friend. This emotional up and down with my little Heidi is driving me crazy
I’m glad your procedure went well, Julia. Looking forward to following your bathroom makeover!
Thanks Kristin, I keep going back and forth between the countertops.
Love, love, love the white and black curtains! Where are they from?!
I made then and you can find the tutorial here: https://cuckoo4design.com/2015/10/no-paint-black-and-white-diy-curtains.html
