My German thrifted finds
I’m late with all my Germany posts this year but I’ve just been taking things slower than usual. There’s been so much going on family wise that I just don’t have a choice.
Every year I post about what I found in Germany and brought back. My hometown has a small thrift shop that I have to visit every year and this year I found something again. It’s such a unique piece! You might have seen it already if you follow me on Instagram and saw my stories (click HERE).
Can you spot it in the below photo? It might not stay there though:
If you guessed the wood bead wall sconce than you are correct.
I spotted the handmade wood bead wall sconce at the thrift shop but didn’t like the price tag of 30 Euros especially since the one candle arm had already been broken and glued once. So I filmed it and shared it on my stories and declared my love for it even though I didn’t know where to put it.
I went home and told my mom about it and showed her a photo. And a couple days later my mom surprised me with the sconce. She had talked to the lady who runs the shop and who also occasionally checks in with my blog and told her that I loved the piece but didn’t want to pay that much for a piece that was already broken and glued. The result was that she was able to get it for only 10 Euros. I was so thrilled but scared to pack it into my suitcase.

Isn’t it so unique? It’s all handmade and doesn’t really give any info about who made it. I didn’t have the right candles to add to it yet but it looks good without candles too. The tones differentiate throughout the day in different lighting but the above photo represents it most accurate I think. The lighter notched out areas are unstained details.
I have to insert my little old lady into this post. She’s hanging in there with all the annoying young cats around. 18 is really looking fantastic on her.
I keep moving it around the house to find the perfect spot for it.

I also tried to find something similar for you guys and just couldn’t. It really is unique. I love when I find stuff like this that not everyone can just go and buy. To me that’s what thrifting is all about. Remember when I brought my mom’s huge tassel home with me last year? It’s just another one of those unique pieces. (See it below?)
By the way, I ended up shoving the sconce in my suitcase wrapped in bubble wrap and my clothes around it. It did break in the same spot again which you can see below on the left arm. I did glue it again and it is holding up ok.
See with the different lighting below?
I feel like the following little find from the same thrift shop wouldn’t really be worth mentioning if my cats didn’t like it as much. Thanks to some cat nip 😉
I might still do something else with it. I don’t know yet.
African Rope Basket
Like you can see in the photo it was an attraction.
See Maya’s strange paws?

Well not that many finds but they were worth lugging back home with me for sure.
Have you ever seen a sconce like that somewhere before. I’d love to find out more about where it came from.
