Fireplace Area Makeover Reveal
I have partnered with Raymour & Flanigan and received product in exchange for this post. All expressed opinions are 100% my own.
Today is finally the day where I get to show you guys our new fireplace area. Ever since we moved into the house 17 years ago, I just haven’t felt all that happy with it. There was always something off about it. It wasn’t ugly or really bad…I just didn’t love it.
It’s always bothered me that it is a corner fireplace but I don’t want to spend the money to make it centered. Another thing is that I hated the builder standard fireplace surround. I’ve always wanted something more chunky and different and I wanted to hide cables behind it as well which I accomplished.
My kids had said “but mom the mantel is not that different” and they are right. To me it’s better though and I ended up keeping the beige marble because I actually like how it flows with our maple flooring. There is always so much going on with all my black and white patterns that another patterned tile just would have been too much.
It was a lot harder than I thought to build this surround because I hurt my hand, and of the minimal space I had to work with. Fitting my vision into that corner didn’t get executed exactly how I had planned it but I’m happy with it regardless.
Also due to the fact that my hand was injured, I don’t have a tutorial. It was hard enough as it is to finish it, let alone take nice photos along the way. I’ll try to draw up in a future post what I did though if you guys want me to.
And I’ll also show you guys all the different looks this area had in another post. Today I only want to talk about the new look and why I love it.
I’ve dreamt about swivel chairs in this area for a long time but it is really hard to find nice ones. They are either really ugly or I’ve seen feminine vintage velvet ones that I have loved. I knew that I wanted something more manly in this area though. When growing up my father always sat by the fire with his glass of whiskey and that’s just so cozy to me.

So when I browsed Raymour & Flanigan‘s website and saw the Maxx Swivel Accent Chair I knew I had found “the one”.  I’ve always loved the look of Chesterfield furniture but it tends to be oversized and I don’t have the room. The Maxx Swivel Accent Chair is just the right small scale and has a similar look to the tufted Chesterfield furniture. I also love that you can’t really tell that it is a swivel chair. With this chair we are able to swivel towards the fire or towards the furniture on the other side of the room.
In the age of internet shopping, it has been a pleasant experience to once again actually head to a beautiful showroom so you can touch the furniture and have interaction with knowledgeable staff instead of having to search for the answers online. I can’t remember the last time I’ve been to a furniture store. One of the reasons I haven’t been is that I don’t want to be bothered by someone trying to sell me something. But this was not the case at all this time. Kevin the store manager at our local Lehigh Valley Raymour & Flanigan was beyond helpful and fun to talk to.
Another awesome thing is that they have free 3-day shipping on all in-stock items and free shipping on all special order pieces. There’s also no required assembly which is a really sweet thing when you don’t have to do a thing.
The swivel chairs are special order and arrived at my house within three weeks. It felt like Christmas morning as a child when they arrived because they couldn’t be more perfect. I’m sure my photos speak for themselves.
Because of the size restriction my old ottoman didn’t fit and also didn’t look right anymore. Since I had just purchased a pouf which could be used as a foot stool, I wanted a small scaled coffee table this time which I found in the Kerri Accent Table. The gold faux bamboo and mirrored top are perfect size wise and for the look I wanted.
Since I went for a more masculine look this time I decided to go with smaller scaled concrete lamps. The Drexel Table Lamp is perfect. Concrete and leather couldn’t sound more manly, right?
I’ve also always found our old lamps to overpowering in the space and the smaller scaled more subtle lamps let the rest of the area shine.
We have a thrifted vintage chrome and gold coffee table on the other side of the room and I wanted to carry that look and metal over to this side of the living room as well and found the perfect side tables in the Pattie Glass End Table.
This nailhead trim and wood detail makes me really really happy.
And I know when my dad comes to visit he will have his glass of whiskey right there by the fireplace.
Look at that beautiful worn leather and button tufted detail. It’s just so good.
Here is a better view of the chrome Pattie Glass End Table and you can see how it compliments our coffee table on the other side of the room.
Isn’t the Kerri Accent Table a beauty? I’ve wanted a faux bamboo piece for a long time.

We are all very much in love with this new set-up even though my cats don’t look all that thrilled. This photo cracks me up. And my daughter is in her usual gear of soccer jersey and her favorite neon colored socks. Got to love her.
And I love that they have a great community outreach program and are willing to support a good cause. You can read more about that HERE.
Huge thank you to Raymour & Flanigan for making my dream fireplace makeover come true!
Since this reveal I’ve added some vintage artwork to the left side of the fireplace. You can read more about it HERE.
